When the idol becomes an idol #SurvivingRKelly

When the idol becomes an IDOL. #SurvivingRKelly

At first, I wasn’t going to watch. Why? Because I knew that it would trigger me. You see, I’m a survivor of abuse. I’ve been violated multiple times. That gives me authority to speak on this matter. Not as a social media social worker that won’t care a week from now. As a woman that continues to not only survive but to thrive after Domestic Violence nearly 9 years later. Yes, I’ve written books. But nothing gives me joy like a survivor telling me “Thank You. Thanks for sharing your testimony. Because of your book, I was able to get out an abusive relationship of nearly 40 years.”

That survivor was married to a Pastor. You see, it’s much deeper than R.Kelly. Or even 45. People love to separate church and state, but I’m here to state my case. Hopefully, it gives you a better perspective.

In scripture, it tell us to “Speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly. Defend the rights of the needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9

So, let’s break down this proverbial documentary called #SurvivingRKelly. I think God was gracing me with sleep on some parts because it was so much to take it. If it took this darkness to shine a light on much injustice going on, let the course run as it may. Someone needs to protect our black girls. And black boys. And every human being regardless of nationality. Perpetuating demonic cycles of abuse must come to an end. Beyond a trending hashtag. These generational curses are destroying families. It’s a spiritual battle. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

So, I watched. I watched it in disgust. I watch the typical “ victim blame” culture that happens in abuse. So, we’re still going to victim blame???? Is that really going to resolve the underlying deep rooted issues that this man have. And why, would people continue to purchase his music in retaliation for the survivors speaking up? Because it’s easy to protect the abuser and blame the victim. We’re stepping in the name of victim blaming. In the name of modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. In the name of comfortability. In the name of “good music”.

A psychopath always tells on themselves. He did through music. Even took on the title of “Pied Piper”. And certainly lives up to it. I still have to say “allegedly” because he hasn’t been found guilty in a court of law.

Let’s look at his Discography.

12 Play-Your Body’s Calling, Sex Me, Bump n Grind

R. Kelly-You remind of something, down low (nobody has to know)

R.-I believe I can fly, half on a baby, only the loot can me happy, suicide, one man

Tp-2-the storm is over now, the greatest sex, don’t you say no, feeling on your booty

Chocolate factory-step in the name of love, ignition, snake…and I’ll stop it there. This is just from 93 til 2003, because there’s so much music. Granted, yes he was a hit maker. I’m no longer calling him a musical genius.

It was at the expense of little girls. That was his muse. He loved and hated women.

Let’s go back to the sex tape he denied saying it was his “brother”. He offered to bribe his brother for the sake of protecting his name. But what about the little girl that got pissed on after he fed his sexual appetite? That alone created a spark in the porn industry. We all had access to it. I did too. And unfortunately watch that in disgust when it was first released in 2008. I, like other fans didn’t want to believe he was capable of this. And for his incarcerated brother to say, Carey could have been rich from 100K if he would have taken the deal is sick and SAD. On so many levels.

I’m not just putting it all on him. He had co-conspirators. He had access. He had money, power, and success. Which he abused it all. And we’re witnessing his demise. Even the parents was drunk from the fame, fortune, and success of it all to sacrifice their daughters.

Sparkle fought for her family to no avail for justice in a court of law. There are so many questions in so much of this. Too much meat to fully digest.

A master manipulator. He manipulated the lawyers, the employees, the cops, the fans, these girls and women, or anyone else that co signed to it.

I give kudos to the women that did speak up courageously. Spoke up on some hard truths. Revealed the monster behind the music. The bondage that he is still dealing with. The sex cults, The demands of being called daddy, and so on. He lived up to the title “Pied Piper”. Google that.

What’s the definition of idol? A person or thing that is greatly admired, loved, or revered. An image or representation of a god used as an object of worship.

Prayerfully all parties involved get the counseling they need. Prayerfully Robert Kelly can dwell on his sickening behavior behind bars. Prayerfully the families can move on beyond the guilt. Prayerfully the victims can keep their sanity.

When the idol becomes an IDOL.

What does it profit a man to gain the world but lose his soul?? It’s a time out for accepting bad boy behavior.

When someone speaks up about being molested, abused, or sexually assaulted, believe them. What if RKelly spoke up about his own abuse as a child?

What if Robert Kelly spoke up as a child? Imagine other unhealed people are walking around infecting others.

I will end with this quote…”The most disrespected woman in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.-Malcom X

Our healed testimonies will heal others.

Our duty as a community is to look out for each other. Speak out against injustice. As images of a woman getting assaulted in broad daylight in a McDonald’s over a straw should really be the last straw. As a little 7 year old girl gets killed in a drive by shooting is incredibly wrong. There are countless other examples. But would the uproar be the same if it was a different race? Society has always shown us otherwise. America has a long way to go. We have a responsibility. Wake up. Pray. Build each other up. Be doers of the word in the world. As an ambassador of Christ in the Kingdom, represent him well.

I’ve exhausted this enough. Hopefully this created a spark in you to be that change you wish to see in the world. I’ve created a podcast of this on ITunes, Google Podcasts, and much more!
