Goodbye to Shrinking Back

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. Marianne Williamson

It’s the time of the year where those “New Year, New You” sayings almost become obsolete. The gym is not as crowded anymore. Resolutions? Nonexistent.  Maybe some of us had January as a trial run with meaning well but not doing anything to making this year our best year.

This is a reminder that your goals still has relevancy. The easy thing to do is to shrink back into complacency. It’s comfortable there. A beautiful place where nothing really grows. Think about some of your before and after moments. Did the change happen because of some major life event? Or did you decide to move and act on it?

I know with me, the decisions to create books didn’t come until life experiences inspired me to act on it. It was the fuel from the fire to know my testimony is to be shared. We all have gifts and talents to share with the world. But it’s that thing of shrinking back into complacency that doesn’t make room when we pray for God to make room. Doubts are destiny distractions. “Your haters” are real fans that see something in you that you don’t quite see for yourself. Those excuses are just reasons to procrastinate.

Fear is not knowing what’s on the other side. Faith is having hope for the unseen things and making a bold decision to make a move. Simply put faith and fear cannot coexist.

What if you looked at yourself the way God sees you? You are the apple of God’s eye. He thought so much of you to create you. He knows what you have to offer the world. It’s time to see it for yourself.

It is a season of the “GloUp!”

Be willing to be the light of the apple in God’s eyes.

Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 MSG

If you know that you’re called to do something bigger than yourself, it’s important to know who you are and whose you are. Words of affirmations (Here Are Some Printable Affirmations) are necessary for where you’re going. Having a strong support system is necessary. After being your own cheerleader, there will need to be a team that will tell you the truth (whether you like it or not) and lift you up. We’re doing life together.

It’s better to have a partner than go it alone.
Share the work, share the wealth.
And if one falls down, the other helps,
But if there’s no one to help, tough! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 MSG

So let the rest of this year be THE BEST of this year!

Say Goodbye to Shrinking Back. You are more than enough.
